County Democratic Committee Reorganizes

May 03, 2025

The Breathitt Democrat Party Executive Committee has an interim chairman and is working through a reorganization ahead of the 2026 county election.
Jamie Holbrook, Chairman of the Executive Committee since 2020, submitted his resignation on Friday, April 25, during a meeting in the Council Chamber at Jackson City Hall.
Under the bylaws of the state party apparatus, a temporary chairperson was appointed to fill the position until a chairperson could be elected using the proper procedures.
George A. Turner, 45, of Jackson, was appointed to fill the Chairperson’s position until the next meeting on Thursday, May 8, at 5:00 p.m.
Turner emphasized that the reorganization was part of the party’s preparations for the upcoming 2026 local and state elections.  He told a reporter for The Jackson Times-Voice that the registered Democrats in the county would elect new committee members and new officers, including the Chairman, at the meeting.
The 2026 election in Kentucky will feature races for the United States Senate, United States House of Representatives, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, State Senate, State House, and Kentucky Supreme Court, as well as county races, including County Judge, Magistrates, Sheriff, County Clerk, Mayor, City Council, and others.  The Kentucky Democratic Party is focused on the Kentucky Senate race and an effort to retake the Kentucky House of Representatives.
“The Democratic Executive Committee can have up to twenty members,” Turner said, “But a smaller number would work if they are hard-working and willing to help.”
The next meeting is scheduled for May 8, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. in the Shouse Meeting Room at the Breathitt County Public Library.  Turner said, “We hope that every Democrat interested in serving on the committee or the future of the Commonwealth will attend and participate in the meeting.”
