Carson Miller Selected as a 2025 Governor’s Scholar
May 02, 2025

Carson Miller was chosen as one of the 1,000 students from across the Commonwealth of Kentucky to participate in the 2025 Governor’s Scholar Program.
Miller, a Junior at Breathitt High School, was selected from over 2,000 applications submitted in January. He is the son of Brendon and Elizabeth (Hounshell) Miller.
The Kentucky Governor's Scholars Program is “a highly competitive program for Kentucky high school students, offering summer enrichment experiences at one of three college campuses.”
Students who wish to participate in the program must be in the 11th grade, be Kentucky residents, and have taken the ACT, PSAT, or SAT. Started in 1983, the program is free of charge, with scholars covering only personal expenses incurred during the five-week residential program.
The program was established to focus on developing the “next generation of civic and economic scholars” to improve science and industry in Kentucky.
Miller has not received information about his placement for the summer program, but will be on the campus of Centre College in Danville, Morehead State University in Morehead, or Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky.
During his time in the program, Miller will be immersed in academic general studies, have the opportunity to participate in focused learning, and participate in numerous social and entertainment opportunities.
Carson Miller joins an estimated 38,000 Governor’s Scholars who have participated in the program since 1983.
A healthy Breathitt County requires great community news.
