Lovins Graduates Police Academy

June 01, 2025

A Jackson Police Officer is among the latest graduates of the Department of Criminal Justice Training Academy’s basic training program.

Officer Cody L. Lovins graduated on May 22 with twenty-seven other officers after completing twenty weeks of intensive, in-person training.  The next step in his process will be the Field Training Program, where he will ride along with other members of the Jackson Police Department to put what he has learned into action and to gain experience.

As a member of Class 557, Lovins will soon join an estimated 8,000 law enforcement officers in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

“Congratulations to today’s graduates who have dedicated themselves to weeks of extensive basic training,” said Gov. Beshear. “Our commonwealth is a better, safer place because these individuals have answered the call to service. Thank you for protecting your communities and our children’s future.”

Based in Richmond, the training program offers instruction on the best practices, the latest technology training, and the legal information needed for new officers to protect the diverse communities they serve.  The latest graduates received over 800 hours of recruit-level instruction over 20 weeks. Major training areas included patrol procedures, physical training, vehicle operations, defensive tactics, criminal law, traffic and DUI, firearms, criminal investigations, cultural awareness, bias-related crimes, and tactical responses to crises.

“I am proud of your commitment to learning the skills and knowledge presented in the Basic Training Academy and wish you success in implementing this training in your home communities,” said DOCJT Commissioner Mike Bosse. “You now carry the responsibility of serving with honor, integrity, fairness, and transparency. Take this responsibility to heart; the people you protect will see how much you care.”

Lovins has started his field training on the streets of Jackson.
