Work Progressing on Highway 15 Ramp

Posted

Drivers experienced a slight slowdown and some congested traffic on Monday, May 11, when the Kentucky Department of Transportation closed a well-traveled ramp on Highway 15.

Despite plenty of information and publicity about the work, many drivers were surprised by the closure of Highway 15 from the Old Highway 15 intersection to the Shell Mart intersection.

Highway officials said the southbound approach to Highways 15 and 30 would be closed between mileposts 17.9 and 18.1 for a week for pavement milling and repairs.

Officials said that the asphalt near the intersection was damaged and would be replaced with concrete, which is more durable.

The northbound exit was not impacted by the closure.

Detour signs were placed on Highway 15 near War Shoal Branch to direct southbound travelers onto the stretch of old Highway 15 into Jackson.

Work progressed after a light rain on Monday morning, and crews had milled much of the damaged roadway by Wednesday.

Installation of traffic light sensors began on Wednesday, and officials expected the ramp to reopen on Monday, May 18.
