A Frozen Creek man was arrested on Saturday after an altercation with his girlfriend as the pair traveled on Highway 15.
Law enforcement officials were dispatched to an ongoing domestic situation on Highway 15 near Jackson on March 14 after a 911 call from a 19-year-old woman who reported that her boyfriend assaulted her.
According to police reports, Leah Snowden was traveling on Highway 15 when Cameron J. Williams, 19, of Birch Lane on Frozen Hill, began to hit her and “grabbed the steering wheel, attempting to cause a collision.”
Trooper Dawson Duff responded to the call, and dispatchers in Hazard updated him that Williams had “attempted to choke her while on the phone” with 911.
Snowden stopped her vehicle on Highway 15 and left Williams beside the roadway. She fled to Shell Mart in Jackson to await contact with the police.
Trooper Duff located Williams standing beside the roadway. Williams was detained by Duff and transported to Shell Mart for the investigation.
Duff noted that Snowden was “very distraught” and provided details about the alleged assault, including information that she had bonded him out of the Kentucky River Regional Jail earlier in the day, after being arrested on a single charge of Alcoholic Intoxication in a Public Place by Trooper Duff.
According to Snowden, while traveling on Highway 15, Williams “punched the front windshield of her vehicle several times while screaming at her” before he used both hands to strangle her and press her head against the driver’s window.
During the altercation, Williams allegedly also kicked her vehicle, causing damage.
Trooper Duff arrested Cameron Williams and transported him to the Jackson Police Department. He was later transferred to the Kentucky River Regional Jail, where he was booked on one count of Strangulation in the Second Degree (Domestic Violence), one count of Criminal Mischief (Second Degree), one count of Assault (Fourth Degree Dating Violence), and one count of Menacing.
Williams remains lodged in KRRJ in Hazard pending his court appearance in Jackson before Judge Gary Salyers.
