Whitely Advances to State

Makaylie Whitely, a Breathitt County Middle School student, finished third in the Governor’s Cup Regional competition on Saturday, February 14.

She had qualified to participate in the state competition at the Galt House in Louisville on March 20-23.

According to its website, the Governor's Cup is administered by the Kentucky Association for Academic Competition and “encourages depth and breadth of academic knowledge, cultural literacy, teamwork, leadership, creativity, risk assessment, and critical thinking, and provides the fun that comes with being part of a team.”

Established in 1985, the organization has more than 18,000 students and nearly 1,200 schools participating in more than 400 competitions each year.
