Virgil Honaker, 94, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 12, 2026 in Bethany, Kentucky. Born on November 21, 1931 in Pikeville, Kentucky, Virgil lived a long and fulfilling life rooted in hard work, family and faith.
A dedicated worker throughout his life, Virgil built his career as both a coal miner and a roofer. His commitment to his craft reflected his strong work ethic and resilience. Beyond his professional endeavors, he proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army.
Virgil found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved fishing and could often be found at flea markets, enjoying the camaraderie and treasures they offered. Above all else, he cherished time spent with family which was central to his life.
Virigil was the son of the late Everett and Elizabeth Ratliff Honaker and the widower of the late Mabel Honaker.
He is survived by his sons, Randall Honaker and Ronnie Honaker; his daughters, Bonnie Honaker and Corby Clark; his brother, Jack Honaker; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Visitation for Virgil will be held Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at the Breathitt Funeral Home beginning at 6:00 PM with his funeral service to be held at 7:00 PM with Tommy Miller and Jeff Noble officiating. Military rites will be observed at the beginning of the funeral service.
Burial will follow in the Iager Memorial Cemetery at Roderfield, West Virginia with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
A man of faith, Virgil attended Caney Creek Mennonite Church.
