Roger Gillum, 93 of Campton, Kentucky passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026 at the Wolfe County Health and Rehab in Campton, Kentucky. Born on May 19, 1933 in Breathitt County, Kentucky, Roger lived a full and vibrant life that touched the hearts of many.
Roger was a devoted father to his daughters Pamela Baker (Chris) and Vicki Lewis. His legacy lives on through his ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy throughout his life.
Roger was the son of the late Chester and Evalee Parks Gillum. He grew up in a large family and was predeceased by his brothers, Everett Gillum and sisters, Ruth Ake, Ruby Bailey, Margie Dunn, Wanda Lee Combs and Joyce Shearer. He is survived by his brothers, Robert Gillum (Annabelle), Joe Gillum (Janice) and Randall Gillum (Darlene), as well as his sisters, Carmie Parks (Philip), Ollie Richardson, Barbara Taulbee, and Judy Napier.
A hardworking man with a strong work ethic, Roger spent much of his career working in Ohio before returning to Kentucky to work for Hinkle Construction and the Highway Department. Outside of work, he found solace in nature. Roger had a deep love for the outdoors and could often be found hunting or fishing. He also enjoyed cutting firewood—a task that combined his industrious spirit with his appreciation for the natural world.
Roger cherished time spent with friends and family. Known for his warm personality and gift for storytelling, he never met a stranger. One of his favorite tales to share was about the day he was born—a story that undoubtedly brought smiles to those who heard it. His ability to connect with others left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.
A man of faith, Roger was a member of Hampton United Methodist Church. His faith guided him throughout his life and provided him with strength and comfort.
Roger’s memory will be treasured by all who knew him. His love for life, family, friends, and the outdoors will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held for Roger Saturday, August 1, 2026 at the Breathitt Funeral Home from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM with military rites and service to begin at 2:30 PM.
