Robinson Worker Has a Close Call

Posted

A field worker at the Robinson Center had a dangerously close call on Monday after an apparent medical emergency.

Paramedics and rescue crews were called to a single-vehicle accident at 2:13 p.m. on May 11 near 130 Robinson Road at Quicksand.

When crews arrived, they located several center employees near a vehicle on the riverbank.

According to witnesses, an employee was driving through fields at the University of Kentucky’s Robinson Center when he apparently suffered from an undisclosed medical issue and may have passed out.

Investigators believe that the vehicle traveled several hundred yards and dropped over two steep embankments before being stopped by a collision in the soft riverbank sand.

“He is very blessed,” a bystander said.  “A few more feet and he would have been in the river.”

Officials confirmed that the vehicle came to rest approximately 15 feet from the North Fork of the Kentucky River and could not explain “why the truck did not flip” when it went over the steep drops.

“The good Lord was just watching out for him,” a coworker said.
Medical crews evaluated the unnamed driver and transported him to the Kentucky River Medical Center for treatment.

The truck, a 2022 Chevy Silverado LT 4x4, sustained some damage in the collision and was removed from the riverbank by Mac’s R & J Towing.
