Officers from the Jackson Police Department were called to the old Breathitt County Jail early on Thursday morning to investigate a possible break-in.
Crews from Omni Construction arrived at the work site where the jail is being remodeled to serve as the Breathitt County Museum and visitors’ center to find a window knocked from its frame and broken on the floor.
The window was located above the doorway leading to the basement, and investigators found no footprints or evidence of anyone entering the building. One official said that nothing had been disturbed inside the building.
A check of several video surveillance cameras in the area did not reveal anyone near the site, and the Jackson Police Department determined that no one had damaged the window.
JPD Officer Chey Turner was in charge of the investigation.
