Leaks Keep Officials Busy

Posted

Three small gas leaks kept the Jackson Fire Department and Frontier Gas Company representatives busy this week.

Dispatchers sent the Jackson Fire Department to investigate the report of a gas leak in the basement of the Jefferson Hotel on Main Street shortly after 8:45 a.m. on May 14.  Fire crews arrived to find the building evacuated for safety reasons and conducted a survey of the building to locate the issue.

The odor of natural gas was discovered in a mechanical room in the basement, but gas company officials were already on the scene.

The Kentucky Department of Transportation’s Driver’s License Office was closed until the building was cleared for entry and the leak was repaired.

On Wednesday, May 13, fire crews discovered a “sizable” leak in a line between two buildings on Highway 15 North near the old Dr. Merced office.  Drivers had reported a gas smell in the area, and crews discovered the issues early on Wednesday.  Gas company crews were on scene within minutes and quickly made the necessary repairs.

On Tuesday, May 12, a small leak was discovered near the Tractor Supply building on Shack’s Branch.  Assistant Fire Chief Charles Noble discovered the leak after being called to the area.  It was quickly repaired by gas company officials without incident.

Officials urge the public to report any gas smell, hissing sound, or other signs of a possible leak to 911.
