Sopia Jiang, a Junior at Breathitt High School, received a coveted invitation to perform as a member of the Kentucky All-State Jazz Band.
Jiang was invited to participate and play the piano.
The announcement on December 17 via the Breathitt High School Facebook page reported that the invitation was “rare and a great honor for her and our school.”
Jiang was selected following a round of auditions on Saturday, December 13.
Across the state, hundreds of performers auditioned for the much-sought-after spots, but only four, including Jiang, were invited from the 14th Region.
BHS Band instructor Bobby Shouse said on Wednesday that he was “extremely proud of this young lady. She has worked hard and is a great credit to our school.”
She is the daughter of Min and Li Juan Lin Jiang.
The first All-State Jazz Band performance, sponsored by the Kentucky Music Educators Association, is scheduled for February 6 and 7, 2026, at the Galt House in Louisville.
