Is the Ballot Complete?

The number of candidates filing for public office in Breathitt County slowed to a trickle during the first two weeks of December, prompting many to ask, “Is the ballot complete?”

The likely answer is, “No.”

Potential candidates have a few weeks left to make up their minds and complete the registration forms from the Breathitt County Clerk’s Office and the online portion before the deadline on January 9, 2026.

Those who have filed as of 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 10, include:

County Judge- Hargis Epperson, Jeff Noble, and Vicie Pelfrey.  Others who have picked up papers: Willie Bush and Tim Spencer.

County Court Clerk- Ashley Barnett and Ryan Chaney.

County Attorney- Brendon Miller.

Sheriff- John Hollan, Ray Clemons, Mike Wolfe, Ronnie Begley, Frank Thorpe, and Jeff Turner.  Others who have picked up papers: James E. Turner.

Jailer- Joel Gross.

Coroner- George A. Turner, Dallas Morris, Marranda Stidham, Brandi Hays-Lykins, Jamison Chase Fugate, Jason Hall, and Dennis Spicer.  Others who have picked up papers: Chad Jones and Shelby Epperson.

Property Value Administrator- Jeff Allen and Matthew Hudson.  Others who have picked up papers: Doug Holbrook and David Turner.

Magistrate #1- Josh Howard, Justin Hollon, Steve McIntosh, Luther Campbell, Brenda Terry, and John Lester Smith.  Others who have picked up papers: Chris Friley, Ellis Tincher, Jamon Halvaksz, and Kenneth Patrick.

Magistrate #2- Roy Herald, Jarvis Combs, and Gran W. McIntosh.  Others who have picked up papers: Clarence Turner and Dickey Abner.

Magistrate #3- Drewey Lovins and Jeremy Pelfrey.  Others who have picked up papers: Jason Moore and Mike Chaney.

Magistrate #4- Michael Prater, John Marshall, Jeremy Montgomery, and Victor Turner.  Others who have picked up papers:  James E. Turner

Constable #1- Michael Gross and Mackie Richerson, Sr.

Constable #2- Brent Turner.

Constable #3- Ken Thompson.  Others who have picked up papers: Dalton Taulbee.

Constable #4- Doyle Turner.  Others who have picked up papers: James E. Turner.

The May Primary is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

Two candidates have filed for the general election in November.

Mayor- Laura Thomas.  Others who have picked up papers: Ken Spicer.

Soil Conservation District- Jarrett Hardin.

The General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
