Herman Harvey, 94, of Ned, Kentucky passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 3, 1930 in Hardshell, Kentucky to the late Adam and Dora Harvey, he was also preceded in death by his stepfather who raised him, Andy Miller and his siblings, Roberta Schmechel, Juanita Wooten, Kathleen Coomer, Eula Mae Filip, Johnny Miller, and Earnie Miller.

Herman lived a long and full life rooted in hard work, devotion to family and faith. Herman grew up with a strong sense of responsibility and resilience that would define his life. He dedicated his career to the coal and lumber industries as a logger, mechanic, and heavy equipment operator. His hands bore the marks of honest labor, and he took pride in every task he undertook. Whether operating machinery or working at his sawmill, Herman found purpose in productivity and instilled that same work ethic in his children.

A devoted husband for many decades, Herman is survived by his beloved wife of 74 years, Eula Mae Fugate Harvey. Together they built a family grounded in love and mutual respect. He was a proud father to six children: sons; Danny Harvey (Donna) and Herman Scott Harvey (Dr. Danika); daughters; JoAnn Harvey (Tom Moak), Mary Harvey Hughes (Michael), Pamela Harvey (Tim Osborne) and Sara Harvey. He also shared a special bond with Shelly Wade Combs, whom he loved like a daughter.

Herman’s legacy continues through his grandchildren: Jacob Moak (Dr. Brook), Andrew Lunsford (Lauren), Justin Lunsford (Sue Ellen), Candace Hughes, Brit Hughes, and Kelsey Lambo (Lucas), Danny Shafter Harvey, Taylor Poston (Nicholas), Megan Benton (Josh).  His great-grandchildren; Jasmine Harvey, Josie Lunsford, Asher Lunsford, Ada Lunsford, Charlotte Moak, Everly Moak, Jack Poston, Annie Poston, Kenzleigh Benton, Raiden Benton, Piper Benton, and Atticus Benton were sources of immense joy in his later years.

He is also survived by his brother, Frank Miller.

Herman was a longtime member of Neace Memorial Church at Ned. His faith was an anchor throughout his life—a quiet strength that guided him through both challenges and triumphs.

Outside of work and family life, Herman enjoyed NASCAR races and spending time at his sawmill. These passions reflected both his love for motion and machinery as well as the satisfaction he found in craftsmanship.

Visitation for Herman is scheduled for Monday, August 4, 2025 at the Breathitt Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 8:00PM and his funeral service will be Tuesday, August 5, at the funeral home beginning at 11:00 AM with Scott Harvey and Greg Watts officiating.

Burial will follow in the Harvey Family Cemetery at Ned, Kentucky with Jacob Moak, Andrew Lunsford, Brit Hughes, Michael Roberts, Justin Lunsford and Rebel Combs serving as pallbearers.  Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Nicholas Poston, Lucas Lambo, Josh Benton, Jimbo Combs, Donnie Fugate, Clayton Combs, John Boy Bush, Frank Jewell, Kenny Neace, Kevin Roberts, Shafter Harvey and Gary Turner.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Bethel Mennonite Camp at 2773 Bethel Church Road, Clayhole, KY 41317—a cause close to their hearts.

Herman’s memory lives on through the values he passed down: integrity in work, loyalty to family, and strength through faith. May his legacy continue to inspire all who knew him.
