The Rousseau Volunteer Fire Department received two grants totaling $11,500 this week.
Lindsey Wolfe, Manager of the Jackson location for People's Bank, presented a $1,500 check to the department during a special ceremony at the Jackson bank.
Rousseau Chief Greg Wilson said the grants were a Godsend and would help the rural department purchase much-needed firefighting equipment.
“We thank Peoples Bank for providing the grant,” Wilson posted on the department’s social media page.
Wilson said that the bank’s support and another $10,000 donation the department received would help the department purchase extrication equipment to assist with automobile accidents, farm accidents, and other incidents requiring extrication.
The Rousseau Fire Department was incorporated in August 2010 and serves the Quicksand Creek area of Breathitt County.
