Three Jackson residents are homeless after a fire destroyed their home on Town Hill Road Saturday evening.
The Jackson Fire Department received a 911 call at 8:14 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, reporting a home on fire after a driver passed 1109 Town Hill Road.
Fire crews responded to the scene near the top of Town Hill and discovered a mobile home completely engulfed in flames and a second structure on fire.
With assistance from Vancleve and Canoe, firefighters were able to stop the fire in the second structure, but it received significant smoke, fire, and water damage.
According to reports, Mark and Beverly Robinson, the homeowners, and Henry Spencer, who owned a portion of the second mobile home, had just left the scene and were about thirty minutes away when the fire was reported.
Fire officials worked to stop the fire and extinguish a blaze that spread to the nearby storage building.
During the fire, the Canoe Volunteer Fire Department was called away to a massive wildfire on Canoe Road.
Efforts to control the fire were hampered by the lack of water access on the mountain, and crews from Vancleve ferried water from Ice Street to the incident.
Representatives from the Red Cross arrived on the scene and offered assistance to the homeowners who retrieved nothing from the house.
Firefighters remained at the scene for nearly four hours to ensure the blaze was out and did not reignite.
The Robinsons said that the trailer was moved to the site about a week ago, and electrical service was installed just a few days before the fire.
The cause of the blaze has not been determined, and no injuries were reported.
