Fire Department Tests Hydrants

Posted

Drivers in Jackson found many wet streets on Monday, May 18, although the sky was bright and sunny.

The reason was just regular maintenance.

Firefighters from the Jackson Fire Department made their way through the city on Monday to “crack” open fire hydrants to check pressure and ensure they are ready to go should they be needed.

Teams of firefighters fanned out across the city, opened the “caps,” and “flowed” the hydrants for a few minutes to flush the lines as part of the department’s maintenance efforts.

Firefighters said it helps to know whether any hydrants need repair or upgrading.

They reported that all the hyrdants tested today were in good working order.

Periodic tests and flushings will continue as part of the department’s ongoing maintenance program.
