Elizabeth Charlene Hughes, 62, of Hazard, Kentucky, departed this earthly life Sunday, April 12, 2026 at the Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard, Kentucky. Born on September 24, 1963 in Hazard, Kentucky, Elizabeth lived a life rooted in her community and surrounded by those she cherished.
Known to all who were close to her as Charlene, she was a graduate of MC Napier High School. Charlene dedicated her career to caring for others as a Certified Nursing Assistant with hospice. Her work reflected her compassionate nature and commitment to providing comfort and support to those in need during their most vulnerable moments.
Charlene found joy in socializing and was a familiar face at the VFW Club, where she enjoyed spending time with friends and acquaintances. She also treasured moments shared with family and friends, creating memories that will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. A woman of faith, Charlene was a member of the Community Harvest Church at Buckhorn, Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ricky Williams; her parents, J.D. and Geneva (Coghill) Hughes; her son, Ricky C. Williams; and a host of siblings who went before her.
Charlene is survived by her brother: Nathan Roberts and her beloved nephews: Denzil Spencer Jr., John Spencer, Kevin Spencer and Steven Spencer. Her extended family and friends will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
A graveside service for Charlene will be held Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Eversole Cemetery at Grapevine with Carol Bowling and Denzil Spencer Jr. officiating with burial to follow.
