Includes drug trafficking and possession of a stolen vehicle

Patrick Combs’s dream turned into a nightmare on Christmas Eve after he was arrested and lodged in a Hazard Jail.

Breathitt County Sheriff John Hollan responded to a report of a man sleeping in a vehicle behind the Go Time at Lost Creek shortly after 5:45 a.m. on December 24.

Hollan located the gray 2008 Pontiac G6 behind the store and ran the tags through the National Crime Information Center database to check the owner's name and the status of the vehicle’s registration.

Based on the information in the database, Hollan determined that the Pontiac matched the description of a stolen vehicle taken from a home in Perry County the day before.

Hollan approached the vehicle and located a sleeping male subject, later identified as 37-year-old Patrick W. Combs of Maple Leaf Lane in Vicco, in the driver’s seat.

Hollan was able to wake Combs up and remove him from the vehicle.

During a search of Combs’ pockets, Hollan located a large quantity of drugs and placed Combs under arrest.

Hollan located what is believed to be ten pink Suboxon tablets, 27 Gabapentin pills, and a “baggie” filled with methamphetamine.  The state crime lab will chemically identify the substances and the amounts.

Combs was charged with one count each of Receiving Stolen Property (vehicle) valued at more than $1,000 and less than $10,000, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine), Possession of a Legend Drug (Gabapentin), Possession of a Controlled Substance (Opiates) in the First Degree, and Public Intoxication of a Controlled Substance (excludes alcohol).

Due to the number and packaging of the drugs in Combs’ possession, he was charged with one count of Trafficking in a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine) in the First Degree and one count of trafficking in a Legend Drug (Gabapentin).

Combs was lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail in Hazard at 10:51 a.m. on Wednesday, where he remains until his appearance in the Breathitt County courts.
