Michael Scott Combs, 33, of Highway 30 West, was arrested on Saturday, January 17, and charged with four counts after police officials received an anonymous tip.
According to police officials, a caller reported that two vehicles were sitting in the park and ride at Vancleve, conducting a drug transaction.
Breathitt County Sheriff John Hollan responded to the location and found a white 2001 GMC Blazer parked near another vehicle.
Hollan approached the vehicle and asked the driver to step to the back of the Blazer so Hollan could speak with him.
Officials reported that the driver, Michael Combs, became “very nervous.” Sheriff Hollan reportedly saw a “bulge” under Combs’ shirt and located a blue pill bottle which allegedly contained ten Gabapentin (800 mg) and 18 Gabapentin (100 mg).
Trooper Kevin Day responded to the scene and requested that Combs attempt several field sobriety tests, but Combs declined. He was placed under arrest.
Officers searched Combs’s vehicle and discovered a bag of what officers believed was Methamphetamine on the floor by the driver’s side door. The substance has been sent to the KSP for analysis and verification.
He was transported to Kentucky River Medical Center, but refused to undergo the requested tests.
Combs was charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance in the First Degree, First Offense (Methamphetamine), one count of Prescription Drugs Not in a Proper Container, one count of Operating a Motor Vehicle with an Expired Driver’s License, and one count of Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Drugs.
The second vehicle was searched, and the driver was released after nothing was located.
Combs was lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail in Hazard on January 18 and remains there pending arraignment before Judge Gary Salyers.
