A Hazard man was arrested on multiple charges on Memorial Day after police found four syringes in his truck on Brewer’s Drive.
Willie Jason Collins, 46, of Sunset Street in Hazard, was arrested by Jackson Police Officer Jeramie Long after the police department received a complaint about possible vandalism to a vehicle.
According to police reports, JPD received a call stating that Gaston Miller had gotten into a “verbal altercation” with Collins, and Miller feared his vehicle would be intentionally damaged. Miller told officials that Collins “took off spinning his tires and doing donuts in front of the fire station” in a silver Chevy Silverado.
Officer Long responded to the call and located Collins in the truck in front of the Jackson Fire Department at 90 Firestation Drive.
Collins allegedly told Officer Long that he did not get into a fight with Miller and was driving through Brewer’s Trailer Park “looking for his wife.”
Officer Long determined that Collins’ truck was not insured and that he was showing “signs of extreme anxiety.”
After some discussion, Collins refused to attempt any field sobriety tests, stating that they were “rigged and not for his benefit.”
A search of his vehicle also led to the discovery of four hypodermic syringes.
He was arrested at 12:04 a.m. on May 25 and charged with one count of Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Substance (Second), one count of Failure to Produce Insurance Card, one count of Failure of Owner to Maintain Required Insurance (First), and one count of Drug Paraphernalia Buy/Possess.
He was transported to the Kentucky River Medical Center for testing.
Collins was transported to the Kentucky River Regional Jail in Hazard, where he was lodged at 9:48 a.m. on Monday. His bond was set at $10,000, and he is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on May 28, 2026, in Breathitt District Court.
