Darrell Duhon Turner, 68, of Independence, Kentucky, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on June 5, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood, Kentucky.
Darrell was born on December 22, 1956, to Monzell Griffith Turner and the late Thomas T. Turner. He was a dedicated supervisor at Community Rehab and Life Transition, where he was known for his compassion and commitment to helping others.
Darrell had a deep love for fishing, never passing up the opportunity to wet a line. He also very much enjoyed spending time with his family. He especially cherished visits to Breathitt County to spend time in the country with his family where he found peace and could enjoy a homemade breakfast from Aunt Helen... He loved Flagler Beach—where he never turned down a meal at Snack Jack’s and could also enjoy the ocean and fishing.
He is survived by his loving wife Sandi Fryar Turner, beloved mother: Monzell Griffith Turner and his children: sons Dakota Turner (Harlee), Derrick Turner (Rachel), Tommy Turner, and Justin McQueen (Michelle); daughters Jenny Walton (Jeff), Nickie Pope (Denny), and Jamie McQueen. He also leaves behind his sisters, Karen Chitwood (Mike) and Dion Harris (Kris). Darrell was also the proud Grandfather to 19 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his father, Thomas T. Turner, Darrell was also preceded in death by his sister, Paula Sewell.
Visitation for Darrell will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Breathitt Funeral Home Chapel, where his funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM, with Gary Bellamy officiating. Burial will follow in the George Griffith Cemetery at Bethany.
Pallbearers will be Cory Chitwood, Casey Chitwood, Denny Pope, Jeff Walton, Justin McQueen, and Travis Fryman.
Darrell will be fondly remembered for his big heart, easy smile, and the love he poured into his family and friends. His legacy of warmth, laughter, and kindness will continue to live on in the lives of those he touched.
A healthy Breathitt County requires great community news.
